Finalist 1: Featherfields Bird & Garden
Ashley and her team at Featherfieds are strong supporters for the Old South London community, consistently backing local initiatives and fostering a thriving village atmosphere for both residents and the business community. The coordinating of “Late & Local” shopping nights and active involvement in events like Christmas in the Village, and their contributions to all the Old South Business Association’s efforts highlight their commitment not only to their own success but to the broader success of businesses around them. The village is fortunate to have a business that not only values its own growth, but is deeply passionate about uplifting the entire community. Their love for this neighborhood shines through in every endeavor, bringing people together and supporting others’ achievements.
Finalist 2: Tuckey’s Home Hardware
As Wortley Village’s longest-standing business and one of London’s oldest family-owned enterprises, Tuckey’s Home Hardware has been a cornerstone of the community since its founding in 1946 by Don Tuckey. Today, under the leadership of Dave Tuckey, the family legacy continues to make a profoundly positive impact on Old South. Known for its exceptionally helpful and friendly staff, Tuckey’s has built a strong reputation for outstanding customer service and guidance for home repairs and renovations to gardening, painting, and seasonal projects. Beyond being a trusted neighbourhood hardware store, it serves as a true community anchor, driving foot traffic to nearby businesses, making a point of offering local products, and supporting countless local charities and events through sponsorships, ticket sales, and enthusiastic community involvement.
Finalist 3: Old South Pub
The Old South Pub is a loved landmark in Wortley Village, right in the heart of Old South. It’s a spot where locals and visitors feel right at home, drawn in by the delicious food, friendly service, and livley patio. Owners Jeff and Hoag have created more than just a pub; they’ve built a welcoming gathering place that brings the community together in a genuine way. Known for their commitment to Old South, they’re dedicated to supporting local events, feeding volunteers, donating to neighborhood causes, and giving back regularly, making the pub an essential part of the area’s spirit. Also, they go above and beyond to support and collaborate with fellow businesses strengthening the entire Old South Community.

LOCAL CHAMPION AWARD FINALISTS
Award Description:
This award honors an individual who has been an unwavering champion for the Old South business community. Through advocacy, collaboration, or mentorship, they’ve worked tirelessly to promote the success of local businesses and the overall growth of the community.
Finalist 1: Jane Walker
It’s been said that Jane Walker seems to know everyone in Old South, and it really feels that way. Her strong connections come from a dedication to giving back to the community she loves. Jane has volunteered her time on countless local initiatives, including being a committee member for Halloween in the Village and Christmas in the Village. Volunteering for Gathering on the Green, and as an Ally and Mentor with Circles London, supporting individuals working to overcome poverty. She is known for finding a way to help absolutely anyone who talks with her.
Through her work with Wesley-Knox United Church and her tireless support of local events, Jane helps foster the sense of connection and belonging that makes Old South so vibrant. Her efforts not only bring neighbours together, they create the welcoming atmosphere that allows small businesses to thrive, drawing residents and visitors alike to the heart of the community. In recognition of her extraordinary service and compassion, the Old South Community Organization named her a “Pillar of Old South.”
Finalist 2: Skylar Franke
Skylar Franke has played a large role in revitalizing the Old South Business Association after it was disbanded during the COVID-19 pandemic. While her position as City Councillor for Old South includes advocating for local businesses, Skylar has gone far beyond these official responsibilities. She actively visits local businesses to understand their needs, coordinating access during construction projects, addressing garbage and cleanliness issues, and helping to maintain vibrant, welcoming streets.
Skylar is one of the most engaged attendees at Old South Business Association meetings, where she listens closely to concerns, collaborates with city departments to find practical solutions, and contributes innovative ideas, such as the highly successful Car Free Day that benefit both residents and the business community. Her leadership and dedication have left a lasting, positive impact on the Old South business landscape, making her a truly deserving candidate for this award.
Finalist 3: Nicole Phillips
As President of the Old South Community Organization, Nicole has been an exceptionally strong and dedicated leader. She begins by truly listening to anyone who brings forward an idea or concern about the Old South community, and then actively works to find ways to make a difference. Nicole is a constant presence at nearly every Old South event, and her impact on the community runs deep. She has guided OSCO through countless meetings, coordinated and supported numerous events, donated food to those in need, and personally offered assistance for both new and longstanding festivals. Through both her words and actions, Nicole has made it clear that she is a steadfast supporter of Old South’s local businesses, offering them consistent and meaningful support. She gives generously of her personal time and leads with genuine compassion, wearing her heart on her sleeve as she works tirelessly and selflessly for the betterment of the community.
