OLD SOUTH   BUSINESS INSIDER MEMBERS MEETING MINUTES Thursday, May 15, 2025 4pm-5pm Location: Wortley Roadhouse ITEMS: MARIO CIRCELLI, DIGITAL CREATIVE ARTS CENTRE (www.dcaclondon.ca)  The Digital Creative Arts Center is a youth-focused program that teaches digital skills: - videography - photography - graphic design - audio engineering They do this with real-world projects, offering low or no-cost services to the community. PETER FRAGISKATOS, LONDON CENTRE MP Pushed for small business tax cut. Urged finding new export markets beyond the U.S. Promised tariff revenue would support businesses/workers. Gave personal cell for direct support: 226.268.2967 Stressed need for more supportive housing. NICOLE PHILLIPS, PRESIDENT - OLD SOUTH COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION (www.oscolondon.ca) Gathering on the Green is June 7th; volunteers needed for takedown. Land sales in the Coves; looking for support to have it be parkland. Connect with the Neighbours of Old South & Highland magazine for promotions. OSCO is celebrating 50 years with events and a membership drive. Rising threats to queer advocates; urged checking in on LGBTQ+ neighbours. Thames Park Park 3 different options.  Please review and submit feedback. The city had a $60M surplus. Proposed allocation of funds: $16.6M set aside for provincially mandated development charge exemptions $25.3 million would go to pay down debt $16.9M proposed for 1% tax cut in 2026–27 (~$39–$50/household) Decisions will be debated in fall; public input will help guide Council STORM STAYED BREWING "OLD SOUTH" BEER CONCEPT UPDATE Working on timelines, rollout plans, and key details for launching including: - Determining the beers flavour profile. - Local artists designing the can with community voting to choose what gets used. - Allocate proceeds from beer sales to support the two local community support not for profit organizations OSCO & OSBA. - Perhaps a launch party at the Elmwood Lawn Bowling Club with Free Community Bowling July 10th. The building that used to be a hair salon and a book store next to the Yoga Shack. - Huma & Suhail from Tandoori Eh! are seeking guidance on boosting restaurant traffic and growing their business. - Karen Gagne, Notary Public, is launching "The 519 Toss" cornhole club with her family! (Plan: Free bowling, music, food truck and possibly the launch of the "Old South" beer.) A special thanks to Councillor Skylar Franke and OSCO President Nicole Phillips for regularly attending our meetings to provide updates, answer questions, and deliver ongoing support for the business community in countless ways.
